Researchers from the British Museum and Iraq have discovered over 200 clay cuneiform tablets and 60 seals in southern Iraq, providing insights into the early Akkadian empire's bureaucracy. The 4,000-year-old tablets from the ancient city of Girsu document various aspects of life, including barley rations and livestock transactions. Curator Sébastien Rey emphasizes the significance of these findings as the first material evidence of the Akkadian Empire under King Sargon, highlighting the role of women in significant positions despite the patrilineal society. The tablets will be studied further at the Iraq Museum in Baghdad. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
