Pope Francis made a surprise visit to the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome to pray before the Virgin icon on the eve of Palm Sunday. He previously visited St. Peter's Basilica to check restoration progress and met with restorers. Despite recovering from double pneumonia, he also met British royals during their visit to Rome.
