Germany's Lusatian Lakeland project, transforming former coal mines into a vast lake complex, will be completed in April with Lake Sedlitz opening for swimming and boating. The project, spanning decades and costing around €13.8 billion, aims to create a major tourist destination and water reservoir, connecting various lakes through navigable canals. The region is seeing a rise in tourism, particularly from the Czech Republic, and aims to serve as a model for other coal-mining areas in Europe.
