Russian officials have warned of severe environmental damage due to a fuel oil spill from two tankers in the Kerch Strait. Over 10,000 volunteers are involved in wildlife rescue and cleanup efforts. The spill has led to a regional emergency declaration, with significant amounts of contaminated sand and soil removed. Reports indicate inadequate state support and health issues among volunteers. The spill has raised concerns about its impact on local wildlife, including seabirds and dolphins. The Kerch Strait is a critical shipping route and a point of conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
