Tourists queue outside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris while archaeologists excavate layers of history beneath them, dating back nearly 2,000 years. The excavation is part of a redevelopment project to create a cooler, greener square in front of the cathedral, which is set to reopen in late 2024 after a fire in 2019. Archaeologists have uncovered various artefacts, including ceramics and a coin from the fourth century, and aim to explore deeper layers for traces of the Gauls. The project is expected to be completed by 2028.
