A study published in the Journal of Neuroscience reveals that astronauts misjudge grip strength in microgravity, retaining a memory of gravity even after months in space. Led by Philippe Lefèvre, the research tracked 11 astronauts aboard the ISS, finding they squeezed harder at the top of movements due to a perceptual illusion. Upon returning to Earth, astronauts quickly relearned proper grip techniques, highlighting the need for specific training for future lunar and Martian missions.
