An Austrian citizen, Eva Gretzmacher, was kidnapped by gunmen in Agadez, Niger. The assailants entered her home, threatened her caretaker, and took her away without stealing anything. No group has claimed responsibility, but Gretzmacher had faced threats in the past. Following the incident, local authorities implemented heightened security measures and called for public vigilance. This marks the first known kidnapping of a European citizen in Niger since the military junta took power in 2023.
