French photographer Thomas Meurot unexpectedly won the Sony World Photography Awards in the Sports category for his project 'Kald Sòl' (Cold Sun), which captures cold-water surfing in Iceland. While cycling through Scandinavia, he forgot he had entered the competition. His black-and-white photographs highlight the beauty of Iceland and the passion of surfers. Meurot began photography at a young age and was inspired by Chris Burkard's work.
