The UN Human Rights Office reported that Bangladesh's former government may be guilty of crimes against humanity due to a crackdown on protests last summer, resulting in 1,400 deaths, many caused by security forces. The protests, led by students against state corruption, lasted from July to mid-August, culminating in the fleeing of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India. The report highlights systematic rights violations, including extrajudicial killings and arbitrary arrests. Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus, now leading the interim government, has called for accountability, while the OHCHR warns of challenges in reforming the system. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
