The European Parliament and China are nearing the end of discussions to lift sanctions imposed by Beijing on several lawmakers in 2021, which had previously disrupted a significant investment deal. The negotiations, led by Parliament President Roberta Metsola, aim to restore EU-China relations amidst changing geopolitical dynamics influenced by Donald Trump's policies. The sanctions were a response to EU actions against Chinese officials over human rights violations in Xinjiang. The Parliament had previously voted to freeze a comprehensive investment agreement with China, which has since faced criticism and abandonment due to various issues, including labor rights violations. Despite attempts to revive the deal, the EU has focused on strengthening ties with other nations.
