Theo Francken, the Belgian Minister of Defense, aims to increase the number of reservists from about 6,600 to 20,000 by recruiting young people for voluntary military service. Following a similar initiative in the Netherlands, 18-year-olds will receive letters encouraging them to join the army. Francken's plan includes the recruitment of 5,600 reservists by 2029, with those who serve for a year earning approximately 2,000 euros monthly. The Netherlands also plans to significantly increase its military personnel by 2030, with a focus on voluntary participation among youth.
