He is currently in custody and faces charges for violating laws that protect the indigenous Sentinelese tribe. The islanders have lived in isolation for thousands of years and are hostile to outsiders. Polyakov attempted to attract their attention and left behind a coconut and a diet soda before being reported by fishermen on his return. Authorities are pursuing legal action against him for endangering the tribe's safety.
