The European Commission is selecting the next European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) with candidates being assessed this week. Wojciech Wiewiórowski, the current EDPS, is seeking re-election as his term ends in December. Other candidates include François Pellegrini, Hielke Hijmans, Ventsislav Karadjov, and Jekaterina Macuka. The EDPS oversees EU institutions' compliance with privacy regulations but has less power than national watchdogs.
