A study by Italian researchers suggests that classical and jazz music have become simpler over time, but this simplification may not be negative. The research analyzed 20,000 MIDI files from 1600 to 2021, revealing that these genres are structurally similar to contemporary music. The study highlights a shift in complexity rather than a decrease, emphasizing accessibility and clarity in modern compositions. Di Marco argues that this evolution reflects broader cultural changes and should not be viewed negatively.
