Countries approved a treaty at the WHO meeting aimed at improving global health responses to future pandemics, overcoming previous challenges faced during COVID-19. Despite some opposition, the treaty was approved and will require countries to collaborate on pandemic preparedness and response. Key unresolved issues include a new system for sharing pathogen data and access to vaccines. The treaty will take effect after 60 ratifications, but the U.S. under the Trump administration may not ratify it.
