A study by researchers from Sciences Po in France found that deactivating Facebook increases happiness but decreases political knowledge. The study surveyed over 2,200 people during the 2022 French presidential election, with half deactivating their accounts for a month. Those who only deactivated reported higher joy and life satisfaction, but were less informed about politics. The study concluded that Facebook does not significantly affect political polarization.
