French President Emmanuel Macron cancels his trip to Mauritius to attend Pope Francis's funeral following the pontiff's death. The relationship between Macron and Pope Francis was cordial yet marked by disagreements on issues like abortion and assisted dying. Despite being perceived as cold towards France, Pope Francis visited the country three times, but misunderstandings persisted. His comments about visiting Marseille instead of France raised speculation about distancing from the French government. The Pope's absence at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral was seen as a snub, reflecting his focus on pastoral visits over state visits.
