Belgium experienced a 39% rise in deaths during a heatwave from June 18 to 29, with 1,222 excess deaths reported, primarily among those aged 85 and older. This unprecedented mortality spike coincided with similar trends in France, where deaths increased by 29.1% during the same period. The extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in parts of Europe, has put significant pressure on healthcare systems.
