Disinformation is spreading as the conclave to elect the next pope begins in the Vatican following Pope Francis's death. The late pope was known for his progressive stance and had condemned disinformation as dangerous. The conclave involves 133 Cardinal electors and is expected to last until a two-thirds majority is reached. False claims about potential candidates, including Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and Cardinal Robert Sarah, have circulated online, misleading the public about their election status. Additionally, misleading reports about Cardinal Pietro Parolin's health have been denied by the Holy See. A doctored article falsely attributed to The Guardian has also been shared online.
