The text discusses the significant lithium resources in Europe, particularly in Germany, Czechia, Serbia, Spain, Portugal, and Austria, and the strong opposition these mining projects face from citizens and environmental groups. It highlights protests in Serbia against Rio Tinto's project in the Jadar Valley and ongoing resistance in Portugal and Spain. Two experts, Lindsey Wuisan and Peter Tom Jones, present contrasting views on lithium mining's environmental and societal impacts, with Wuisan emphasizing the negative consequences and the need for reduced lithium usage, while Jones advocates for responsible mining practices to meet Europe's lithium demand.
