DR Congo conflict: Why is the EU under pressure to reconsider its minerals partnership with Rwanda? 😔
Cikk tartalma röviden
The ongoing conflict in eastern DRC has led to calls for Brussels to reassess its agreement with Rwanda regarding the supply of critical materials. The EU-Rwanda deal, aimed at securing resources for green technology, faces criticism for allegedly facilitating the trade of conflict minerals exploited by Rwandan-backed rebels. Recent advances by the M23 rebels in mineral-rich regions have raised concerns about international law violations and humanitarian impacts. Belgium's foreign minister has urged action, while the EU is under pressure to suspend the agreement until Rwanda ceases its interference.
