The Dutch interior ministry is studying content moderation methods for large online platforms following TikTok's layoffs in the Netherlands. State secretary Zsolt Szabó emphasized the need for better investment in local expertise. The study's results will be shared with the European Commission in 2025. TikTok claims the layoffs won't affect the overall number of moderators in the EU, despite the closure of its Dutch office. The company has around 160 Dutch language moderators, with a total of over 6,000 EU moderators. Human moderation is essential for improving machine learning tools, but there are still gaps in language-specific moderation.
