French President Emmanuel Macron plans to visit Mayotte following Cyclone Chido, which has caused severe devastation. An emergency meeting was held to devise an action plan, with all emergency services mobilized. Macron announced a national mourning and highlighted the need for future preparedness. The storm has left over a thousand civilians missing and hundreds feared dead, with aid being delivered via military aircraft. Mayotte, the poorest French territory, faces logistical challenges in relief efforts due to damage to its airport.
