Shackleton 1922-ben halt meg Grytvikenben, Dél-Georgia államban, negyedik expedíciója során. Legénysége tiszteletére építette a Reménykeresztet, amelyet később 2018-ban egy beton emlékmű váltott fel. Shackleton died in 1922 in Grytviken, South Georgia, during his fourth expedition. His crew built the Hope Cross in his honor, which was later replaced by a concrete monument in 2018. The new memorial is now displayed beside RRS Discovery and will be open to the public after a rededication ceremony. The unveiling coincides with a documentary about Shackleton's Endurance expedition.
