Astronomers have discovered a distant planetary system, LHS 1903, that challenges existing theories of planet formation. Unlike the Solar System's arrangement of rocky and gas planets, LHS 1903 features a rocky planet closest to the star, followed by gas giants, and another rocky planet further out. This 'inside-out' system suggests that planets may form sequentially in gas-depleted environments, rather than simultaneously in a protoplanetary disc.
