A new study by the European Commission and OECD suggests that nearly three million cancer diagnoses in the EU could be prevented by 2050 if member states meet tobacco and alcohol reduction targets. Additionally, addressing air pollution and obesity could prevent another million cases. Despite a decrease in cancer mortality over the past decade, cancer prevalence has risen due to better detection and treatment. Tobacco remains the leading cause of cancer deaths, responsible for 20% of such fatalities in 2021. The EU's Beating Cancer Plan aims for a tobacco-free generation by 2040 but faces delays in implementation. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
