The European Commission has cleared Hungarian Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi of allegations related to a spying network targeting Commission staff, concluding an internal investigation without evidence of wrongdoing. This decision allows Várhelyi to continue as EU Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare. The investigation was prompted by reports of intelligence officers posing as diplomats from Hungary's Permanent Representation to the EU. Várhelyi, who served as Hungary’s ambassador to the EU during part of the investigation period, denied knowledge of the network. The announcement coincides with the upcoming inauguration of Hungary’s new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar.
