EU diplomats have rejected amendments from the European Parliament to delay the new deforestation rules by one year, insisting on the original proposal from the Commission. The legislation aims to combat deforestation by imposing obligations on traders importing raw materials. The Parliament's amendments, supported by the European People’s Party, sought to classify countries with 'no risk' of deforestation, but were dismissed by member states. The deforestation law is set to take effect on December 30, 2024, for large enterprises, and mid-2025 for smaller ones. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
