EU fisheries ministers reached an agreement on fishing limits for 2025 after discussions in Brussels, focusing on safeguarding fish stocks and marine ecosystems while ensuring fishing community livelihoods. Key points included substantial reductions in fishing efforts in the Western Mediterranean to protect demersal species, with a final agreement formalizing a 66% reduction in Spanish and French waters and 38% in Italian waters. The deal introduced mechanisms for maintaining 2024 fishing levels under certain conditions, though concerns were raised about the sustainability of fish populations.
