A letter from the Centre for AI & Digital Humanism urges that the next European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) should not be a long-time EU official like Bruno Gencarelli, as it may compromise the EDPS's legitimacy. Gencarelli is one of four candidates shortlisted for the role, but the Parliament's LIBE committee has voted to appoint him, while member states support current EDPS Wojciech Wiewiórowski. The decision is pending endorsement from the Parliament’s Conference of Presidents.
