The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly to criminalise the creation, possession, and sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) generated by AI. The directive also addresses grooming, sextortion, and livestreamed abuse, aiming to establish a unified legal framework across the EU. The vote received broad support, with 599 in favor and only two against. Lawmaker Jeroen Lenaers emphasized the dangers of AI-generated material, linking it to real child abuse. The directive seeks to outlaw various forms of online child abuse and improve legal protections for vulnerable children.
