In the first half of 2025, EU pipeline gas imports fell by 9% due to the cessation of Russian gas transit via Ukraine, while reliance on liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased. The EU is considering ending oil and gas imports from Russia by 2027, but imports via Türkiye have risen. The top sources of pipeline gas are Norway, Algeria, and Russia via Türkiye. LNG imports are set to rise following a trade deal with the US, but concerns about dependence on LNG and environmental impacts have been raised.
