The European Union is advancing its plan to establish a multi-orbital satellite constellation, IRIS², to enhance secure communication for security and defense. The project, valued at €11 billion, will deploy nearly 290 satellites starting in 2029, aiming to provide secure connectivity for EU member states and citizens. Andrius Kubilius, the new Defence and Space Commissioner, emphasized its importance for EU autonomy in times of crisis.
