EU taxpayers may have supported 13 leading oligarchs of Orbán regime with up to EUR 5.5 billion 😔

A Budapest-based Corruption Research Center study reveals that between 2011 and 2023, EU citizens contributed approximately EUR 3.2-5.5 billion to Viktor Orbán's regime, identified as a 'kleptocracy'. The analysis involved 340,000 public procurement contracts linked to 13 key figures, including Lőrinc Mészáros and István Tiborcz. These individuals received a total of €19.3 billion in EU subsidies, with a significant increase in funding after Orbán's rise to power. The study indicates a high ratio of kleptocratic rent in public tenders, particularly from Hungarian taxpayers.
