The European Union has approved a proposal allowing air passengers to bring a personal item and a piece of hand luggage (up to 7 kg) for free. This decision aims to enhance travel fairness and transparency, as stated by Matteo Ricci, the bill's lead sponsor. The new rules will ensure airlines cannot charge extra fees for these items and are part of broader reforms to improve passenger rights. However, there are concerns that this could lead to higher overall airfares. The proposal also includes protections for vulnerable travelers and clarifies compensation processes for cancellations and delays.
