Reporters Without Borders warns that press freedom in Europe is deteriorating due to funding cuts and the influence of propaganda. While Norway, Estonia, and the Netherlands rank highest in press freedom, Greece, Serbia, and Kosovo are at the bottom. Greece faces severe challenges, including the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaïvaz and extensive surveillance of media professionals. Hungary, despite its issues, ranks higher due to fewer violent attacks on journalists. The EU has legislative tools to protect press freedom but needs to ensure consistent application across member states and innovative funding models.
