European Commission appoints 13 experts to draft AI Code

The European Commission has announced a list of independent experts from the EU, US, and Canada to draft a Code of Practice on General Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), including models like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. The 13 experts will lead four workstreams to create the Code under the AI Act by April 2025. The AI Act, effective from August 2025, imposes strict rules on GPAI providers. The first online plenary with around 1,000 attendees will help develop the Code. EU lawmakers have raised questions regarding the appointment process for the experts.
