The European Parliament's leaders agreed to form a working group within the Committee on Budgetary Control to investigate how the European Commission funds NGOs, particularly in light of accusations regarding secret payments to environmental groups. The group, chaired by Niclas Herbst, will include 13 MEPs and has a six-month mandate to scrutinize funding contracts. The decision follows a failed attempt to establish an inquiry committee, with the working group seen as a less invasive option. Additionally, the Parliament decided to drop negotiations on the 'Green claims directive' aimed at combating greenwashing.
