While municipalities initially supported hydrogen buses due to generous subsidies, they are now shifting back to battery-electric options due to prohibitive costs. The report highlights that hydrogen buses are often more expensive than diesel and hybrid alternatives, and questions the environmental benefits of hydrogen produced from fossil fuels. Despite receiving EU funding for hydrogen investments, the Polish government faces challenges in prioritizing between electric and hydrogen buses. In contrast, Germany is successfully operating a larger fleet of hydrogen buses.
