Smoke has been detected near the cargo facility of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, raising concerns about the threats posed by Russian occupation. The plant, held by Russia since February 2022, is not producing power and relies on external electricity for safety. The IAEA is monitoring the situation, and discussions about restarting the plant are ongoing, complicated by the loss of cooling water due to the Kakhova Dam collapse.
