First glimpse inside burnt scroll after 2,000 years
First glimpse inside burnt scroll after 2,000 years
Cikk tartalma röviden
Scientists have digitally 'unwrapped' a badly burnt scroll from Herculaneum, revealing text for the first time in 2,000 years. Using X-ray imaging and AI, they aim to decipher its contents, believed to be philosophical in nature. The project, led by Stephen Parsons, shows promising results, with some letters already visible. The scroll was damaged in the 79AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius and had been considered unreadable until now.
