Pope Francis, the first Pope from the Americas and a Jesuit, was elected in 2013, bringing a focus on humility and social justice. His papacy faced challenges, including resistance to reforms and accusations regarding his past during Argentina's military dictatorship. He emphasized interfaith dialogue, social inclusion, and a moral mission for the Church, while also facing criticism for his handling of child abuse cases and conservative backlash. Despite health issues, he continued to advocate for peace and global outreach, leaving a more global Church for his successor.
