Mark Whaling and his crew battled a wildfire in Los Angeles County, realizing the need for better water access for helicopters. This led to the invention of the Heli-Hydrant, a tank that allows helicopters to quickly refill with water, improving firefighting efficiency. The Heli-Hydrant has gained attention as wildfires increase, with several already built and more planned. While they offer significant advantages, concerns about their placement and accessibility remain.
