Jordan faces severe freshwater shortages due to limited river resources and overexploited aquifers, worsened by population growth and climate change. The EU supports Jordan's water sector reform with significant funding, including a €400 million loan from the EIB for water availability improvements. The Wadi Al Arab II drinking water plant project, co-financed by the EU, EIB, and AFD, aims to supply water to regions hosting Syrian refugees. Additionally, the Aqaba-Amman desalination project seeks to enhance drinking water supply significantly. Environmental impacts are being considered in these initiatives.
