Germany received its first P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, designed to detect and combat Russian submarines, at Berlin's main airport. The aircraft, part of an eight-unit order costing €3.1 billion, enhances Germany's maritime reconnaissance capabilities. It can deploy sonar buoys and is intended to operate primarily in the North Atlantic. The Poseidon replaces the aging P-3C Orion aircraft.
