Germany's parliament passes historic package boosting defence spending
Cikk tartalma röviden
Germany's parliament passed a significant bill allowing record state borrowing for defense and infrastructure by amending fiscal rules. The vote, with 513 in favor, still requires a two-thirds majority in the Bundesrat. The proposal, initiated by the CDU and SPD, aims to loosen the 'debt brake' to fund €500 billion for infrastructure and defense, marking a departure from fiscal conservatism. Critics, including the AfD and FDP, raised concerns, while economists stress the need for broader reforms alongside increased spending.
