Germany is set to send 500 million euros in child payments abroad in 2024, despite a slight decrease in total payments. In 2023, 525.7 million euros were sent abroad, with 258.5 million euros in the first half of 2024. The payments are intended for children of taxpayers, including some migrant workers. MP Antje Tillmann defended the payments but acknowledged instances of abuse, particularly among migrants falsely claiming to be minors, which strains the economy and social support systems.
