France's new health minister, Yannick Neuder, has announced his participation in Dry January, risking his relationship with wine-loving President Emmanuel Macron. Neuder advocates for a month of abstaining from alcohol to encourage the French to reconsider their drinking habits. Despite the initiative's lack of official support and previous opposition from Macron, a significant portion of the French population plans to participate. The wine industry, crucial to France's economy and culture, has historically resisted such campaigns, complicating public health efforts.
