A new laser ground station, the Holomondas Optical Ground Station, has begun operations in Greece to enhance satellite communications across Europe. Developed through a partnership involving ESA, the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the station supports Greek satellite missions using high-speed optical communications. It is designed to be faster and cheaper than traditional systems, facilitating laser-based data transmissions. The initiative aims to strengthen optical connectivity infrastructure in Greece and Europe, with the potential to revolutionize satellite data transmission speeds.
