EU officials met in Pau, France, to discuss carbon capture and storage (CCS), facing criticism from environmental groups about high costs and project failures. Analyst Andrew Reid highlighted that upcoming CCS projects could cost €520 billion, requiring €140 billion in government support. Despite past failures, EU energy commissioner Kadri Simson emphasized CCS's importance for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
